For mounting the comb. Typically seen polished. Likely fire team at the Mauser factory. Awesome m34 pick up Dave!

Damn nice find. Looks like it might have had an aluminum comb attached to it at one time. I can see what looks like a wear pattern around the bottom plug. I have an M34 but, it was made without the holes for a comb and it doesn`t have the bad a$$ Mauser decals.

I suspect the Mauser decals are post war decals. Look how the helmet is used and abused but the Mauser decals are perfect.

You're probably correct, but the 95% number. Where do you come up with this?
