1936 S/42 opinions wanted

The stock serial number immediately strikes me as suspicious and not original as there is no suffix below it or the "K" to denote a Karabiner stock vs a Gewehr stock and the numbering looks off. The stock appears to have been sanded given how weak those side acceptance stamps are and the front sight hood is a later addition that would not be present on a 1936 rifle from the factory.

upper band and stock ser #'s are highly suspect.. the rest looks decent. The stock looks correct but enhanced.

By the looks of things, that sight hood was just put on a non slotted front sight post. It is sitting a bit too low and looks a bit too spread on the bottom of the hood.

The upper band is a restamp. Will be interesting to see the serial number in the stock channel.
I think this is a stock from a S/42 G date rifle.

This was indeed true, the hood came right off without issue

the second picture, I think it is the hand guard is clearly a restamp, you can see the old number under the current one.

Which would lead me to believe that the stock may be restamp as well, as suspected earlier and would be consistent with a restored sporter where the original stock was destroyed.
