The past couple weeks have been very fruitful for me collecting wise and I am quite grateful. I scored my first ax coded 98k too along with this rifle. I picked this one up today from a very good buddy. As we know any matching 1915 Suhl is a very good find. This one’s all matching down to the screws and has a Bismarckhütte finished Sauer & Sohn barrel much like Chris’s example.

An astonishingly fine example! CGH was the lead firm of the consortium, but was the least present in 1915 of the three (9 including this one with about 30 1915's recorded overall - 11 JPS with VCS surprisingly at 12 which is surprising because VCS is a laggard in every subsequent block...)

The three firms seem to have specialized in production, base upon acceptance patterns, JPS made mostly barrels (rare to see otherwise but some Erfurt receivers in batches); CGH made most receivers by acceptance patterns, with few exceptions; VCS is a mystery what she focused upon in this arrangement, at least was the case 10-15 years ago when I studied the consortium patterns)

Thanks as always Paul. The ax seems to be a standard matching ax41 98k, RR is two eagle 280 and one eagle 359. Presume this means Walther supplied receiver. Will get photos of it in time.

That's a solid one Marc. Very clean compared to mine, but no less original (probably either better maintained or less gas exposure lol) Glad you listened to reason. Aside from mine, yours is the only other matching 15 CGH Ive seen in the last 15 years or so. I'm sure others are out there but probably with collectors that don't participate online. Hopefully others pop up.

Cyrus, Sam and I believe they focused on stocks primarily with some small parts too. Mostly observation and educated guess, but it fits.
Can't go wrong specializing in Suhl makers!
Paul, that's for sure. I'm up to 14 Consortium Gew 98s now with another '15 acquisition recently. I find the Consortium to be one of the more interesting arrangements and there was a long history of collaboration even in the Confederation days.

That's a stunner of a Haenel Gewehr 98, congrats on picking up this one! Definitely would be a highlight for any Imperial collection, thanks for sharing.

First position is typically the receiver maker (hardening), the latter two are mating, and usually the assembler. (from recollection anyway, like every post I haven't been a real researcher in5-10 years, I mix details up a bit...)

Makes perfect sense Chris (VCS make stocks), - the Suhl makers (CGH, VCS, JPS + the outsider Simson) are the most interesting of the makers for me, though I like the arsenals a great deal too, especially the weird variation's)

Hell what am I saying, - I like them all but for different reasons; on some days I think DWM is the best too!

Paul, out of curiosity how many 15 WOK and 15 Simson have you recorded?

I don't have #s handy, but I recall about 15 1915 WOKs, 1915 Simsons probably around 9-10 if memory serves. Paul can probably pin down closer.

Raw #s of course (aka: "any condition")-- probably in league with the startup Suhlers in comparison.

I haven't kept up with new discoveries so there are probably more awaiting inclusion, but small in numbers if any:

Simson 9 (with two additional reports absent serial, one Wolfgang reporting so legit report but can't be trended):
197, 426, 524, 814, 1593, 1849, 2222, 2599, 3567

WOK 15 - 8, 137, 205, 1045, 1137, 1170, 1291, 1313 (sterngewehr), 4261, 4904 (sterngewehr), 6013, 6187, 6731, 8994, 9167

WOK needs some scrutiny here, two sterngewehr's probably repurposed receivers but I would have to dig into the data, probably not relevant here; also the gap between 1291 and 4261 (or 6013) is troubling from a pontificator's pov...

Nice pickup Marc of a very nice 1915 Suhl. I don't have much else to say that hasn't already been said. I'm glad that bayonet lug clung on for dear life given it is missing the cross pin lol.

Dang, $2800. That feels like a great deal for a rifle this scarce. Nice find!
