Does bring back paperwork and owner documentation really add value to a P08?

The reality is that the form itself tells one nothing regarding the actual origin or circumstances of how the items were obtained. They do document the vets name and unit along with the date the form was signed. Assuming the item(s) listed are serial numbered (most items are not) then the items...

German "M37" Schnürschuhe (Low Boots): Original or Post war

“The German Reichswehr, Uniforms and Equipment of the Army 1919-1932” by Schlicht and Kraus, has detailed line drawing and original written specifications. More so I believe that there were actually two different specifications on issued during that period not to mention the WWI predecessor of...

German "M37" Schnürschuhe (Low Boots): Original or Post war

I’m not sure what your question is or if these are being posted to simply show. They are not the M37 low boots associated with WWII era production and issue. However, I believe these are German military, probably Army, and date earlier. These may well be from 1920s as they meet to specific...

    BCD 4 discovery...Many pics!

This was written about back in Senich’s book of the late 1970s/early 80s. A few points of fact however would be based on “tons” of photograph evidence and good old common sense tells us that this and many other suggestions and even directives were not even largely much less mostly complied with...

Does bring back paperwork and owner documentation really add value to a P08?

I agree. It means more to some collectors than it does others. Collectors who were very active say before 2000 and part those who collected in the 1960s-80s know that there was nothing unusual about buying guns directly from vets. I guess the answer is; how much the potential buyer cares about...

    Antique Store Find

A fantastic find, probably more important or least should be, to a serious Mauser collector than a helmet collector.

    What's your favorite German Sniper?

I understand and I did not mean to be picky. It seems for decades when I talk to sniper collectors or read posts the term is always High turrets. It’s like the term damn Yankees down here, you would think it’s one word unless you saw it written. Maybe better just to say turret mount unless...

    What's your favorite German Sniper?

I’ve always liked that photo but I have no idea how I could say that set up is a high turret? I always considered it as probably a low turret given the timeframe. My favorite is probably driven as much by what I have than anything else and my favorite is the low turret, Ajack scope...

Gew 98 Night Sights - For Review

I do have access to the two sets that I mentioned of course the machined set would be the only one relevant here. The luminous material has long lost its ability to work on the examples I’ve seen and based on conversations with other collectors who have them it’s the same..probably dead for...

Gew 98 Night Sights - For Review

I noticed that the thread is not exactly seizing up due to excessive responses. I have handled a few sets of real ones both the machined and stamped versions. I know nothing of what the fakes look like nor can I say that I know every possible variation of the real ones. These appear to be...

Checkered Sniper Butt Cup for 98k

It’s one of those items that it would be hard to imagine why it is missing on an otherwise all matching correct rifle that was originally fitted with one. On a restored stock example that’s another matter of course. There was a fair amount of pimping up snipers in the early years of collecting...

Checkered Sniper Butt Cup for 98k

As far as I know new collectors have always been priced out of the German sniper market. Even back in the mid 1970s legit 98k sniper’s were about 5x-10x the price of a basic 98k….everything being equal…..so about the same as today. I do agree with the comment on high prices but I don’t know what...

    Amberg 1916 - Matching - Stock Question - Untouched?

I guess we have reached a point that if a firearm was heavily used it was “messed with”. It’s a natural progression of things when mint unissued becomes the baseline. On a stock like this it is very subjective (Academic word for guesswork) as to what wear and care something received during its...

What’s wrong with this K98 Sniper?

We could discuss whether any or at least many of the auction “estimates”, for auctions in general not just these guys, are really intended as estimates or just numbers to pull prospects in to fan the bidding ninth early stages. Kind of similar tactic as starting off at $1 amount on GB and the...

What’s wrong with this K98 Sniper?

sorry re-reading your post I see that the l block OP LT was also marked with the same convention as the “i” block so that would indicate that the bases with rifle numbers came later like m block or on the HT mounts only

What’s wrong with this K98 Sniper?

Thank you so much for the input and the photos. I’ve never found anyone who had much experience with that detail. I think that I’ve seen photos of that “i” block LT before maybe many years ago. The R and the seemingly unrelated number is very consistent with what I’ve seen and the few other rear...

What’s wrong with this K98 Sniper?

I agree that 21k is a good price (low price) for a matching LT with no issues. I could not see many details in the scope or mount photos but it appeared to me that the scope was in the 44,000 range. If so this is extremely low number for an l block LT. Again we are back to some comments in...

Acceptance proofs or bubbafied S/42 1936

A KM arsenal could locate the test fire proofs anywhere on the barrel, receiver and bolt they wanted to, there was not an official government requirement beyond placement somewhere on those parts. We can find a lot of Luger variations with left side firing proofs both military, police and...

    Zf41 info not sounding right....

I agree regarding the inserts not being a period practice. I’m not sure what is meant by the statement of no official sniper program prior to early 1944? If program means sniper training schools, doctrine and official adopted optics, mounts and rifles and factory built and tested….well all of...

    Gewehr 88 Erfurt 1889 1010

Very tough to find without the “S” chamber relief stamp. Not mention mostly matching (main components), no additional modifications, 1889 dated and practically within the first 1000 made by Erfurt. A lot of very nice qualities with that one.
