It's a real one.

As for value, I don't really know. I am sure some will want a lot of money for one but they are just a butt plate. Maybe $300-400???

Nice to find one loose like that.. Value is whatever someone is willing to pay.. The guy who needs one will pay far more than the one who doesnt..

OK, thanks to all who responded. I have this as well as the byf45 HT receiver that I purchased from Simpson Ltd. My intent was to try to gather and restore items to make a nice Sniper variant in display format… but not to shoot or portray as original. However, other things have come up, that caused me to alter my course on this project.
So, I’m looking to sell this Butt Cup plate, as well as that receiver….but wanted to be fair in the pricing. I had purchased this along with some other pieces for $1100….so my thoughts of asking $800-900 isn’t off.

Really, an original one….wow, grab it! i more than likely will be listing this, as well as the receiver as stated up for sale. I’m not trying to rob my fellow collectors….as this has too often been done to us all. I just want to try to retrieve a fair price on both.

Not all the stuff on eBay is junk. One has to be careful and look at the seller as well as the item.

Thanks to all who helped. I’ll be posting this up for sale OBO for $800, as well as the HT Receiver from Simpsons Ltd. for $1275 (Paid $2051.82 total with tax & shipping) OBO.

Jack

Last one I sold for $1500.00.
That’s insane in my opinion. It’s just a butt plate. How does a butt plate bring nearly as much as an entire rifle? Someone got bent over the table.

Here is the problem as I see it, if people continue to sell sniper stuff for these inflated prices eventually it will price new collectors out of the hobby. Sure we want to see this stuff increase in value but at a slower rate and because new demand is there. Not because of greed. Just my thoughts.

As far as I know new collectors have always been priced out of the German sniper market. Even back in the mid 1970s legit 98k sniper’s were about 5x-10x the price of a basic 98k….everything being equal…..so about the same as today. I do agree with the comment on high prices but I don’t know what to say about it nor much less do about it. I will say that crazy prices are in no way limited to 98k sniper prices. I saw a Stg-43/44 mag pouch for around $6000 and before anyone says wow that’s a fluke I’ll say that I know two people who have spent that range on those pouches within the last two years…..so they are there.

I have bought and sold for that $1500 on various occasions. I sell them for what I pay for them to friends. I’d like to find a cheap original sniper rifle for any price close to that $1500 these days. I am not new to the game. I get the point here though. Just my experience. Wish I could find them for less.

Not an easy item to find. For $800 it’s a steal and anyone who needs it should buy it.

The last checkered butt plate I got I paid $800 for it and it was same condition as your Jack . Usually you see them sell for $800 to $1000 . Unless You can sneak up on one . I have not seen a checkered butt plate for sale in at least a year or more .

Lol. Not $1500 for a sniper rifle. But this amount is close to what a nice non-sniper k98k goes for.

Again, I understand when someone needs one they will pay more. And I’m not calling anyone in this thread greedy. Just hard to fathom paying this much for just a butt plate.

I think it’s good sometimes to be the voice of resistance to price increases. It’s in vain, but someone has to do it.

It’s one of those items that it would be hard to imagine why it is missing on an otherwise all matching correct rifle that was originally fitted with one. On a restored stock example that’s another matter of course. There was a fair amount of pimping up snipers in the early years of collecting before most anyone really knew exactly what types and what letter blocks had things like checkered buttplates and extended safeties. In addition things like winter triggers and rear sight covers were popular to add to them as well. It’s probably safe to say that there are more checkered buttplates out there than there are correct letter block rifles needing them but they are still residing on rifles that they do not belong on.
