Wondering if a particular byf zf41 falls into the correct serial number range to be a legit zf41 rifle?

byf43
Serial 42287 f
cag+ scope
duv 214 mount

Thank you

It sure could be. Im not 100% if there are definitive serial ranges for zf41 rifles. But, byf43 and 44 there are fairly high numbers and That could be one.

Its best to look at the rifle super close and study the base and stock relief.

In the Oberndorf chapter of Volume IIa Bruce and Mike explain that serial number 6957g is the earliest recorded byf43 Z.F.41 - but I guess the f-block is very close to that, so it could be fine? You’ll need to provide pics.

Base looks legit, marked 135 and the stock relief looks correct as well.

Scope/Base was maybe just added as it does not appear numbered matched to the rifle (early byf ZF41's should have the mount matched to the rifle I believe). However, there is significant glare where it should be marked.

Stock is sanded - likely when the duffel cut repair was made (weird place for a duffel cut).

Very surprised this sold for $3800 CDN within a few days....likely because people sell RC's for $1400-1600 CDN these days in Canada - which is nutz - people don't realize they could import a Bolt MM for those dollars and maybe even luck into a matching rifle from the US.

It didn’t sold for 3800$ and of course it is a legit zf41 byf43 . I agree the scope and mount is not numbered to the rifle ( wich is not that uncommon . Original
Matching one was probably throwed out or broken at some point and then replaced later or after war for another one we will never know for sure . But the rifle was sitting in the veteran closet for 65 years until he died then the guy selling bought it straight from . Anyway this is a 100% matching rifle ( if you don’t count scope/mount) . The stock has sadly been sanded (probably during the cut repair like you mentionned) that sucks but still it is matching .

Still $3800 for sanded stock, ouch. I’m a wood nazi I suppose but to me, a rifle is not even collectible once sanded. Sad end for it.
