I have a sun shade marked in the same way. I always thought some type of production/part number etc. I am interested to know the real answer.

Any body have any comets on these numbered sun shades. where they where made and when ? I have seen very few of these for the Zf41 scopes.

the numbered one's are the "Type 2" rainshields and it's the RBN code used mid to late war. About half way down the link it goes into detail about the type 1 and 2. I will say I've not seen it stamped that way before, the one's I've come across go length-wise on the shade.

thanks, Nick

I looked at my other scope ,And its long ways on the sun shield, Not much finish left. This one came on my Zf41 sniper I bought in 1985

Maybe there are a couple ways they marked these during the war. Unless some are humped up? Any one could shed some more light on this shield type of stamping.

yes, here it is. the marking in the length is in relief (positive marking with a press) the other is very fine, probably also marked with the press but in negative imprint.

I do not think it is very rare, have already seen several. I think the standard must have changed,at a point in production when they already had product stock and marked. and to sell this already marked stock, they marked again to meet the requirements of the new standards. maybe....

Found this photo of another numbered Zf41 rain shield. Numbered the short way.

hello, there is also a version, later I will say, where only the horizontal marking is present. I will say that these pieces were manufactured after the stock of parts manufactured with the vertical marking have been sold
