New to the forum and new to k98k, although already got Swedish and Turkish mauser. Saw a local AD that someone is selling unmatched DOU44 k98k for $750. Is this a fair price to collect? He also has a Polish k98 from Spanish civil war, no Crest, for the same price. Which one is better and worth the money? Thanks in advance.

This depends entirely on condition and what "unmatched" means. If it's an honest bolt mismatch it would be a steal at that price. If it's an RC it's a decent deal in your favor. If it's one of those beat to hell SE Euro imports from a while back it's probably OK, depending on if the markings were defaced etc.

Which is all to say that no one here has enough info to answer your question.

Thanks for the insights. here is info from AD:

DOU 44 (I assume no number matches with each other.)
ww2 German K98 marked DOU44. Made in Waffenwerke Brunn. The gun is a mix master, but does not have any import marks and is not a Russian Capture. The metal is in good shape.

Polish K98/Kar98, SCW rifle

Polish K98/Kar98 that looks to have been a Spanish Civil War rifle. The bolt handle matches the receiver and the stock. The receiver crest has been scrubbed. The bolt safety and knob don't match the handle. The stock is in great shape, with some arsenal repairs. The bore is dark, but has sharp visible rifling that should clean up well

Based on that info you'd be rolling the dice. I'm skeptical of the no import mark but it's possible. A lot of sellers miss the smaller ones that aren't the modern billboards. At that price, and for a shooter, a lot is going to depend on condition. How is the finish? Is the stock mechanically OK (e.g. no lug setback, no cracking in the mag well or at the tang, etc)? Have any of the markings been defaced? That kind of thing.

It's basically impossible to get into a complete, non-sporterized K98k for less than $500 these days so worst case you're out a couple hundred if you do take a gamble and get burned.

Thanks. I think I will be more towards DOU44. Since it is local I can check out the condition in person. Is no-matching going to be a problem for shooting?

Not really. You might want to check the headspace but beyond that it won't matter for a shooter.

Yeah. Unless the bore is a sewer pipe or there's some other issue it's a decent gamble, especially if you can bargain it down a bit. I'd also go for the dou

i think i get called for a dick a lot, but i think if you have the money and want it you pull out 650 cash on the counter. What's the worst he can say? No way.
