Which mount is correct??

Hello all,
I am now starting a project to turn my BCD 4 rifle into an LSR sniper to add to my collection. I have picked up what I believe is a nice scope, its an Ajack 4x90 scope which i think is right for an LSR?? I was wanting to find out before I go ahead and get a repro mount, which type of LSR mount would be correct for this setup with this given rifle code and scope? Also the subject of repro LSR mounts, I hear 'accumounts' mentioned around, is the only viable option??

Personally I think that such a project is only a destruction of an untouched k98. The scope is the last Ajack known to be produced. This scope was never mounted on a gun, but is a leftover. You are only producing a senseless forgery which does not good to anyone, like the ZF41 gun. If you want one for shooting, there are better options. If you want to have one in your collection, save and buy. But please do not play gunsmith Frank.N.Stein. I know I am harsh.

Hello, thanks for your opinion, but I must disagree. The rifle itself isn't untouched, it is deactivated and has no matching no's. The scope while being late war was issued/used and fitted to a rifle as can be seen camo paint remaints (most likely British vet applied) still on the top dial. Why is this different to using any other original scope on a 'repro' sniper?? Or am I not looking at this right?

I think the same way as you. I have a few repro snipers made up of R/C or total miss matched rifles. Cool project.

I would not drill an original matching or mostly matching K98k, but this one, if mismatched and deactivated has much less value. So nice scope to put on a repro though...

¿How do you know is finished by Sauer? Just asking... I have a BCD45 with a ce marked barrel, I thought Sauer just provided the barrels to Gustloff for assembly.

Anyway is a repro, so it will never be correct, the "correct" mount would be the LSR with bands (you can see one in the recent thread http://www.k98kforum.com/showthread.php?9120-LSR-restoration) , not the early milled rings. The sniper key safety and checkered buttplate would be also important. I would go with the repro mount, a real mount should be in a working LSR, IMO.

Thank you to everyone for their replies. I thought it would be the band mount, not the milled rings but thought I'd make sure. As for doing a repro sniper using these pieces I don't feel it will do any harm, it's mainly the scope that I don't want to damage but I don't think mounting it in bands will do that?

I know repros aren't for everyone, but for me it's the only way I could own a 'sniper' unless someone knows of an original for sale anywhere in Europe??

You alway have the Option of finding a Real Sniper Rifle in Europe or Best bet would be the USA at an Auction or from a Reputable Seller and go this Route. But if You go the Auction Route best get good detailed photos and have it verified if Your not knowledgable or even if You are I believe its always best to have multiple Collectors get eyes on if possible at the time , as there is to many fakes being pushed as Original WWII German Sniper Rifle. But I would bet to say most here would gladly help you verify . Which ever You do choose best of luck to you . Best Regards.

I dont know if the authentic mounts will even slide onto any of the repro bases...

I know they will not fit on a accumount base.

BTW....I have the same Ajack serialed 52450...they are only 43#'s apart
