What's your favorite German Sniper?

It's been a little slow here so I wanted to start a thread that might rekindle our love for this hobby. Perhaps people will participate.

What is your favorite sniper rifle used by the Germans during WWII and why? Maybe it's the design of a certain manufacturer. Or maybe the first one you ever saw and fell in love with. Or perhaps an original war time picture that you just started at for hours. Maybe its a repurposed WWI sniper or something captured from another county (Russian, British).

No set rules, just talk about what you love and why. By all means, share pictures!!!!

I'll go first......

It's a very tough decision because I really like most of them. But if I had to pick the top one for me it would be the Mauser High Turret with an Ajack scope. I like the way it looks, it's well balanced in the hand and is very iconic with several war time pictures showing turret mounts. My first K98k sniper was a high turret and I was beyond excited to finally own a legit German sniper! (Although my example has a stupid bmj scope. LOL)

I’ve always liked that photo but I have no idea how I could say that set up is a high turret? I always considered it as probably a low turret given the timeframe. My favorite is probably driven as much by what I have than anything else and my favorite is the low turret, Ajack scope configuration. I like all of the configurations but generally I will give the nod to the earlier the better.

I'll try to pull out of one of my safes the supposed mismatched High Turret (?) that I bought back in the 90's for 5k. It is the only one of the Mauser snipers I bought that experienced collectors thought was real - in that they wanted to buy it off me. All the rest were called fakes.

I have several real G-43 matching snipers but the prior owners have posted their pics before. One of them is that bleached blonde in the first Hitler's Garands - now I doubt that it is all original - that black part in front bottom stock seems to be plastic. Paid top dollar when the market was high.

Unsure what they are worth now.

Buyer beware - noobs shouldn't go out and try to buy a real one without a lot of research.

@Philip oh I’m sure it’s a low turret. Just always liked the picture and makes me think of high turrets.

Early snipers are definitely cool. However anything earlier then 1944 is so tough to find.

I doubt I’ll ever own one but for me it’d have to be the SSDC with the focal adjustment dow. Yours is extra cool with the flat buttplate Matt, really nice rifle. The High Turret with an Ajack is in second just because it was my first sniper and a pleasure to shoot.

I understand and I did not mean to be picky. It seems for decades when I talk to sniper collectors or read posts the term is always High turrets. It’s like the term damn Yankees down here, you would think it’s one word unless you saw it written. Maybe better just to say turret mount unless identifying something specific about either configuration.
