What is your favorite 22 cal Ammunition?

Thought this would be an interesting topic and I am sure that opinions will be all over the place. What is your favorite 22 cal ammo? At this point I will buy what the store has to sell. I went to three stores today and each one would only sell 100 rounds each. My favorite ammo is the Remington Golden Bullet. The round that gives me the most difficulty is Federal.

I usually buy the cheapest, right now have a bunch of Gov't surplus, that I like and it is lead. Just use a jacketed bullet every so often and it seems to keep down the leading. Before that it was a stash of CCI.

The CMP has offered surplus 22lr in the past. I bought a couple of cases of standard vel. Remington several years ago. It was packaged in a white box but did have Remington printed on the bottom of the box. Shoots
fairly accurately.

My preferred brand is Wolf.

I tried a brick of RWS R50, WOW!

Eley was my favorite when the government was buying it for me to shoot. We used to get a lot of Winchester in a plain white box too.

Winchester or PMC target when it's my own dime.

Right now I'll shoot anything reasonably priced that I can get ahold of. I was given a large quantity of of .22 shorts and that is what my daughter gets to shoot during the shortage.

Yep, same here. I haven't seen any .22 on the shelves of the stores in my area for at least 6 months now. When it hits the shelves, it's all usually gone within an hour or two, even with a 100 round per customer limit.

BTW, I think CMP ran out of surplus .22 a while ago. I believe they're now importing .22 from a manufacturer in South America and you have to get on a waiting list to buy it.

22 Ammo

Things are getting better here in cental flyover. But last summer I went to a few auctions and they were paying $120 for a 550 rd. brick of any .22 ammo. I am shooting .22 I bought years ago. So it is just funny for me to watch the feeding frenzy when they bring out the .22 ammo for auction. At the same auction I paid $10 for a full new box of Hornady 7.7x58 Jap that was marked $24.99. Sometimes it pays to be looking for the odd ball ammo.

At that price I would not shoot my rifles. I would still collect but I would wait for prices to fall. It will be interesting to see how the closing of the last large smelting facility will affect availability and price of all ammunition, not positively is my guess. I don't have my MOPAR Collectors Guide in front of me but they had a really interesting piece on the closing of the smelter and new limitations on the importation of ammunition. The stores by me are still limiting each person to 100 rounds each. It just means a few times a week I will go around and pick up my supply. Boxes of 50 are going for $3.99 to $4.99 each. There are other places that are selling boxes for $6.99 each, I just don't buy there.
