Went To an Estate Sale In Kempner Texas

Pretty much sums up how they feel about us. Most of the 20 to 30 year olds here are meth-heads, no future, know nothing about the past, and all they care about is what they can steal from you for their next gram of dope.
unfortunately all you say is true

It’s sad. My elderly, childless neighbors left all their stuff to my late wife (including the house). The lady’s family wanted one thing, a big bible. There was a box of photos. I still haven’t had the heart to toss it. He was a WWII and Korea vet. I have all his stuff. When I drop dead, who will want It?
It is just a sad truth that every thing we own, or treasure, winds up in an antique store or the county land fill.....

Of my 3 children only my daughter values my, and my wife's, collectibles as worthy of keeping.

My sons see them as the fruit of dollar trees, to be sold by the pound

You have some bad weather up don’t you?
Yep, the wind is tearing shxt up. Loosing shingles off the roof as I type this. House is actually shaking. I live on the western edge of town and the wind is straight out of the west. Catching full brunt of the wind as it comes in. Bent a flag pole in half up the street and a few telephone poles down but have not lost power yet.

Saw the weather channel tonight, and thanked God I live further South

God bless and protect you and your family my friend.

My kids and grandkids have all said they will take care of our family heirlooms. The military stuff is all shadow-boxed and hanging on the wall. The rifles are clean and standing at attention. I give them stuff at Christmas and for birthdays.

Amazing finds, easy 10K maybe 12. If back them these vets only knew what this stuff would be worth today, imagine how much more they would have picked up.

I've always wondered if Hitler didn't know he was building a billion dollar trinket empire.

My question is, what was the back bidder thinking?? He/she bids to 950, then folds?
I arrived early talked w/ the family, looked at the guns, asked if there were any ww2 items among all the junk, bought the items directly from the grandson, with a cash offer, left my phone number w/ him and departed.
Did not go out there today because of bad weather, rain, hail, and high winds, called and set up for tomorrow afternoon with the same grandson.
Just a case of right time, right place and dumb luck.

Finally connected w/ old man's grand son and bought the rest of the WW2 souvenirs that turned up.

2 large flags, a vehicle panel marker, and some other items.

The grandson told me that after what I paid for the other things he was sure that selling to me would net more money.

Given the fact that this is rural Texas, he is right.

The locals want to buy stuff for a nickel a pound.

Right about the nickel a pound. I won`t sell any of my stuff local. Couple of so called antique stores here. Just thought I would test the waters. Took one of my better conditioned S84/98 III to one. Got offered $50 and told that was top dollar. Was also told that there was no interest in that ol` Nazi crap around here.

Pawn shops and Antique stores are known for ripping folks off......

Yeah you are right about that. Kind of like the old baseball card shops in the 80s and 90s (and probably today). They have a $100 card to sell but only want to give you $10 if you were to take same card in to sell to them.
