wartime dou45 mega thread

rarest of the rare - dou45 e block

Loving all the late dou45’s! My c block is phosphate. Dave, I got it from our friend Col. Jack. The only one I’m missing to have all the letter blocks is a “b” block. The easiest to find. Lol.

here's my C block. kinda grungy and I have not touched it since picking it up except to clean the bore. interesting that it's almost all blue except the TG and FP while Mike yours is only about 100 rifles later and just about all phosphate. I guess the transition was right around there.

here a no-letter. notice the shroud and safety -- very early for any phosphate and they actually look more like they are in the white.

oops forgot pics.

The late war German phosphate finish varies but many are like yours. Very thin with little crystal growth. Not so surprising honestly. Probably a variety of reasons but depleted carrier solution or conservation of the anode or base material seem most plausible. The first might have been out of necessity while the latter may have been a 'business decision'. Time may have even been a deciding factor.

I'm renaming this the wartime dou45 mega thread, so many sweet matching dou45's in here. Pic Stickied too!

I'll add my dou45 no letter - it has phosphate bolt components too. As a late war collector, you want phosphate because, well - its phosphate. But, your C block all blued is damn sweet as well. I've been really lucky to get my late phosphate dou45's, mostly luck actually, but they came at a time where I would only buy 1945 dated rifles (or Dec.44 since L blocks). One thing I've noticed, many people can't act fast when they see a dou45, because they don't know if its postwar or not - that hesitation helps. Some people just won't buy dou45's because of post war guns, they think all of them are postwar (like svwMB's being French). Its allowed me to get a good set of them for less than you'd expect. Also, this dou45 no letter is one of my favorite buying escapades, without the help of 2 good friends I would have never got it.

Good call on the now accurate title and another beauty you've added! You can really see just how thin and weak the phosphate is on your bolt shroud. Even though the rifle shows next to no wear the finish just didn't hold up on that collar.

Rare guns

In all my years of hoarding 98's I have never had a chance to get a nice one....all Rc's. I am glad someone has them.

Ok here's my a block. interesting that milled floorplates seem common on these till later on. this one looks like an armorer's part maybe?

I have a dou45 that I bought from TurboArchie here on the trader. It’s an R/C BUT somehow has a lot of its correct parts still with it. Still, I’d love to have any of the examples shown here!
