And a special thanks to Bruce for the special serial number

Waited all these years to get the full set all in one go. Was definitely worth the wait!

Enjoying these books immensely. Thanks to Bruce and Mike for the hard work and dedication to make this magnum opus (or is it "magnificent octopus"?) a reality! :)

Lol - how long to it take you to stage that propaganda photo?

I can just picture you smiling ear to ear as you put it together too!!!

Backbone

During the period when Backbone was published, Richard Law pulled of an amazing job of compiling his book.
That book back then was my main goto guide on K98ks as there were few other texts as good as BBOTW.

Law did not have the advantage that we have today of the internet and near instant communication between collectors.
In addition, the compilation of data was much more difficult back then.

I for one commend his work as it was and still is a good text on the K98k, albeit dated.

These young pups...

BTW, will post your book tomorrow Wolfgang.

BBOTW was good for it's time. But not any longer. I cannot imagine the work that went into it in the pre Internet and digital photo days. Staggering project. But I would never advocate its use now. And I personally came up into the hobby in the golden age of Internet, and found the websites and posted rifle study to far exceed the benefit of that book.

To you posters who think they've figured it out that Richard Law's book is trash, not fit to read, that you could have done better back then or now, well just offer your books for sale (cheap) or free. I'll take some. Still a good, informative book on K98k's as it has always been. Bet you (the guy who tossed his in the trash can) didn't leave it there. Always a few naysayers around no matter where you are. Had an idiot in his early 20's at a recent gun show who was selling Glocks (had Glock cap/t-shirt on) tell me that the main reason Colt quit making Pythons as they were not dependable, powerful enough or accurate enough to contend with his plastic wonder guns. Asked him where he got all of his information he said internet is full of it and he'd been shooting combat pistol courses for around five years. Ohhhhh! Let him know I was fighting crime and corruption 20 some years before he was even conceived. Unloaded on him about a lot of his knowledge failures. Could go on, but ya get the drift.

I think you guys are taking it a bit too literally. And no, no one is saying they'd do better given the circumstances. I don't think he left it in the garbage. But would you recommend that book to a new collector? No. Not even for basic knowledge as there is something better now. No one would advocate a 1988 car over a modern one. Just progression.

No slight taken on any of this.
Chris was only having fun and I get his point.

We have the advantage of time and technology on our side, thats one reason why the data in our books is much more accurate than
the data gathered when Richard did BBOTW.

No need to trash Backbone, it was light years ahead of anything at the time. Heck, many guys that worked on the Backbone project also contributed to ours. I think it was meant to be a light hearted joke, not to be taken so serious.

Good heavens... that escalated quickly. Everyone take a deep breath, my previous post was certainly not meant to be taken seriously. I think most people picked up on my poor attempt at humour, but I do apologize to those of you who were offended.

Good to know that it was not meant to be taken seriously.
Thanks for clarification.
Sorry for my harsh reply!
Thanks
