Volkssturm dogtags?

I've seen these advertised for sale and on auction sites. Round rather than oval shaped. Did the Volkssturm actually have their own style? I'd be surprised they had any at all.

I've seen these advertised for sale and on auction sites. Round rather than oval shaped. Did the Volkssturm actually have their own style? I'd be surprised they had any at all.

There are original to the period Volkssturm identification disks (erkennungsmarken). Some are the typical oval shape while others are a small round variation depending on the issuing authority. Examples are shown in W. Darrin Weaver's Desperate Measures: The Last-Ditch Weapons of the Nazi Volkssturm reference work; some of which are from my personal collection. I would suspect that some or even many Volkssturm troops were never issued an identification tag.
