Very Rare WW1 Reichswehr Navy Butcher Bayonet Matching, Dated on the hilt 1917. And on the cross guard dated 1920 for rework done . Stating that it is 1920 Navy. Very hard to find one matching and in real nice shape. And not sharpen or dinged up. I was very happy to get it at the SOS. I'm sure there where not a lot of these made and to survive all these years. This is the first matching one I have ever seen.in all my collecting years.

I had heard from two collectors whom were present at the SOS sales were good. However, prices were high and there was a lot of second-rate arms to be seen at those prices as well. This even carried over into smalls like bayonets, Rg34s, etc., although undoubtedly some deals were to be had (like that pictured by the OP)...

Very, very nice find and as stated, quite rare. I have a similar example that an Ostsee _ P property marking. Thanks for posting and congrats ....

Nice piece, anyway for correction, this was not 1920 Navy refurbishment, as the 1920 was stamped on blank metall , the blueing and refurbishment was made much later in early 30ies and then it was navy inventory serialed. The navy serials has no blueing inside as it was stamped after probably remove the other serial under. Left crossguard is clearly flatened. I assume this was a Tom B. piece reported in 2017 probably. Is a Demag piece.

In case of 1936 rifles, is most real there existed with a new S84/98 bayonets, i dont believe it was serialed with S98/05, it could be there is a suffix on the rifles, or the bunch with S98/05 were with older refurbished Gew98b rifles and is mostly separate string.

I can state with certainty that there is a G98m within a few dozen numbers (Ost See) of this bayonet, naval rework either Reichsmarine or kreigsmarine depending on the exact month inn there it was marked I guess. I’m also thinking that some G98m were being re-worked and property marked quite possibly even probably into 1936 along with a few new 98k being procured.

The production of Kar98k run since 1934 and there was a list in book of Kar98k also in 1936 should be bayonets S84/98 made for these rifles, but eventually using with older bayonets could be offcoarse realised. The bayonet production since 1935 was in large quantities. More real is joining with reworked Gew98b or other type refurbished rifles.
