A lucky guy (not me 😭) found an extremely nice S/42 G (with its cleaning rod) near Strasbourg, France :

Serial number is 6464s.

It is heart-warming though that rifles in such condition can still be found :)
 
Man that is one to drool over! That stock is really immaculate along with the bluing. Nice to see.

No he does not say much. I guess it was in a closet or a wardrobe in dry conditions. However there are some stains on the sling, so maybe not so dry, but dry enough to keep the finish perfect.
Obviously, during wartime, it might have stayed on a rack.
 
That is an absolutely fantastic example. One of my favourite codes and a tough one to find in original condition, let alone in mint condition.

My S/42G is one of the prides of my collection. Its all original but definitely didn’t sit on a rack.

Hey everyone, Thought I’d share a few pics of my most recent acquisition. Its a nice honest S/42G still in factory trim. Rifle clearly saw a lot of use, but remains in decent condition overall. Quite happy with this one, as I wasn’t sure I’d ever get to own a nice original Mauser G date!

Very late Mauser G date... right around the code change....super example.
