Update on FG42 from SMG Guns

I'm positive Rick knows what everyone is saying. He is quite busy with the build aspects o his buisness.
I contacted him a few months ago about something I needed done to one of my FG42s. He contacted me in a few days and I finally sent him the gun for rework.
The work was done in a timely manor . He has a lot.on his plate. Updates are unfortunately on the top of his list. Maybe once a year?
If you can wait till whenever it's done you will be a happy man.
Oh buy the way my gun had an issue and haven't thru the gun and replaced a few parts like the recoil spring that bent. He then milled the trigger a bit more so it would function right.
So give Rick a break if you can. Where else can you get a great reproduction
I wish he had a bigger company so he could do other reproduction guns.

Running a small electrical family business I feel his pain. Especially when you can't find help, and you're already doing the work of multiple people. There are times I'm doing electrical estimates till midnight some days. Plus, doing the family farm work on saturdays. And there are days I would just like to relax. Truth be told I try to contact people back as quick as I can. But, that can be awhile though. Unfortunately, if I spent all day on the phone and replying back to emails. I would never get anything done.

Just know this. You guys are still getting the best reproduction FG42 rifle available. And made by a man who has a business. That has a wonderful reputation and integrity. Which is not something seen very often nowadays.

What does your farm work have to do with anything? My guess is you get your shite done with the electrical business because it’s your job, like making guns is Rick’s job.

I gave Rick 2.5 years of breaks after already waiting a year…. waited 3x the estimated wait time. Then paid more than was originally agreed to. Then got the gun with a problem out of the box. Was told to wait to send it back so he can get to it quick. It’s now been 2.5 months (6-7 weeks since in his possession) and I can’t even get a email response… I fail to see why Rick deserves ANOTHER break.

By no means am I being critical of Rick/SMG. I can only imagine what he has to deal with. I've been on the list for a TYPE 1 for 3.5 years. I got the same email a few others received about a year ago that my rifle was going to be ready this last summer and confirming my specs, finish, caliber etc. Nothing since then. Before that, Rick was very responsive to email inquiries etc.

I was just wondering if I was the only one or is this a trend? I just hope he's okay and still making progress. We are talking about a substantial chunk of change and in my case, it's been 3.5 years. I'm not backing out. I still want the rifle. I just want some reassurance that's it's still coming at some point and Rick is alright.

If it's been three months of no contact could be a death in the family or illness possibly. Honestly I have no answer for you on that. Unless someone here knows Rick personally and could find out more on what's going on. But, if someone was very responsive on emails or phone calls before. And now no contact what so ever? That tells me something is going on personally in their life.

I'm of the same opinion. I'm still gonna buy the rifle when the time comes because it is beautiful and no one else makes them (for now), but i'm tired of the estimates like we got earlier this year "it'll be a month or two" etc, and nothing ever materializes with zero communication. Surely at some point over the past 3.5 years i've been waiting he could have hired more help to speed things up, am I wrong? In the time i've waited for this one gun to be done, d-k production has already set up shop in the US and is actively shipping mp44's, mp38's, and soon to be mkb42's. At this rate, i'll probably be able to buy THEIR fg42 before Rick's is done!

Well, heard back from Rick today. He said he has been dealing with labor issues, but things are moving forward. It's just taking a long time to actually build each, individual rifles. He was very gracious and apologetic, but assured me that the rifles are being built and shipped, albeit very slowly.

I will get my rifle, eventually............Good enough for me!
