Winning bidder is definitely uninformed as that 42-1940 had a renumbered bolt and not by the Germans.
Sad waste of money.
...........

Wow. That looks like shite.

$4275.00 worth. What is the max that a humped bolt 42 1940 would bring? $1500? I wonder how the “winner” is going to take the news? Looks like two uninformed bidders flew that turd rocket to Mars. That’s an extremely lucky “loser”.

Seems like Lionberger A+(37) (Member Since 09/19/2003) is a big fan of Grey Blanket. Seems like a couple other fellows should be researching a bit more and spending a bit less. We have a Picture Reference section which would have saved him had he taken about four minutes to review vetted examples.

Spot the humper. If you can’t you shouldn’t have been bidding past a grand on that thing.

Worthy of its own thread so it doesn’t get tossed back and wash up on someone here.

Like any high(er) volume seller, there are going to be turds. This one should have been caught by any potential buyer exercising a little due diligence. The seller certainly provided sufficient pictures. We publish these to call attention to the turd so that people learn to be at least a little diligent and more importantly, so that this turd doesn’t get on other people. The person who faked this bolt isn’t going to stop, he’s a swindler. We can make it tougher for them on the K98k side and move them down the road.

This is more stating facts of observed behavior and not name calling so take it for what it's worth. I don't KNOW any of these guys. Wonder if anyone here does?? Anyway '99th' and 'robreul' are both VERY ignorant of what correct looks like but have no problem bidding waaay over anything resembling sanity. Also observed fact over the last 6 months especially, 'Ruscon61' will actively seek out and find ANY overpriced, overhyped turd posted up by ANY of a number of popular sellers he follows religiously and throw some gasoline on that fire.

Not sure what's driving these guys desire to take $100k and turn it into $10k??? There is NO way they are ever getting their money out of most of those purchases I've seen. This is what I observed for any buyer brave enough to come forward. 'Bought of $4k+. Listed less than 60 days later for under $2500 and not only gets no takers but gets beaten up to the point he takes his turd and disappears.' Seriously

That's my point WRT these certain bidders in particular. 150 purchases? 300 purchases and you can't spot this? They are either blissfully ignorant, an imbecile or so completely clueless to what any number of milsurp items look like 'correct' that they just believe what those sellers say? Not sure which but it would interest me to know what's driving that behavior. Fly on the wall for the bidding mania show.

So does anyone think grey blanket knew?

I don't know and I'm not making any accusations. Of anyone, However for me ignorance is a pretty lame defense. If you've sold 100s, 1000s or 10s of thousands and handled 2 or 3 or 5 times as many in your lifetime. If you claim you're a highly respected high end firearms dealer for 30 years and you say you 'don't know', that's lame. Weak. Sorry it is what it is.

And I'm NOT talking about some ultra obscure, rarely seen in the wild piece that might be really tough to vet.

Hey That first one is mine! Hate to have it it the bad mix:laugh:
By the way, the middle one is BAD!

Yeah, I think he knew too.

I can't say for sure. I can say he knows Mausers VERY well, has been collecting them as long as many of us have...and I know for 100% certainty he has sold at least 1 known bad to him rifle as 100% legit and correct.

Draw your own conclusions...

My opinion is he doesn't do the humping, but he certainly doesn't vet anything very well. Proceed with extreme caution and read and look very careful.

I also believe that grey blanket has magical powers that makes sane men spend way more than they should. Every now and then the blanket needs a recharge and something will even go cheap but it isn't often.
