Trenching Tools and Cover Fitment

I have a WW2 Repro entrenching tool that I use for metal detecting (It works awesome) and was wondering if someone can tell me if the East German shovel covers will fit the wartime shovels. I would rather pick up a East German as they are better made than the repro covers.

It's been awhile, but I think someone in my reenactment group tried this, and the East German carriers are too small.

But the repro entrenching tools vary in width, if memory serves...
