Thoughts on duffle cut

Are you looking at this one? The duffel cut is pretty harsh but it is all matching and unsanded

Some collectors are okay with duffle cuts. Others will totally turn away from them. So it’s a 50/50 shot at the collector you are showing this to as to whether or not it will be liked or not. It is the history of the gun, but it will absolutely detract in its value. And, it depends on how bad the duffle cut is, where the duffle cut is on the stock (I’ve seen some outlandish cuts in the middle of the stock) and if a fix was done and how bad or well done a fix was done.

Probably the only way I would have one is if it had capture papers with it or some other vet provenance with it or some other circumstance.

Thanks everyone for the comments. The cut is harsh but the rifle is pretty much untouched other than that.
Still trying to raise funds.

What price are you looking at? Isn't that an important part of the equation?

I think you could find one not cut for that price if you're patient but if it doesn't bother you seems reasonable with todays stupid prices.

This one is also listed on gunboards trader I believe. You may get a cheaper price dealing directly as the seller won't have to do auction fees and you won't have to pay tax.

I love duffel cuts, I love it even more that so many people hate them. Less competition and a cheaper price(usually) for more history.

Probably right in the $ 3k ball park. I want something that still has all the stamps and is unsanded with matching numbers.

Unfortunately this has a duffle cut But meets all my other criteria.

Likely most of my comments are echoing other members. Despite the cut, looks like a nice relatively untouched rifle. With the duffle cut, you know it was very likely an undocumented bring back, which I think is interesting. I have had a few and eventually replaced them with uncut rifles as eventually they bothered me, but then again that is just me. There is something to be said about a place holder, especially as these rifles get harder to find and more expensive. I would not pay much more than 3K IMHO. Good luck either way.

I would simply say to hold off and save your money..be patient and look for a rifle which meets your criteria that doesn’t have a duffle cut.. while I agree they are cool in some ways.. their “coolness” doesn’t equate to an easy sale when selling them.. . I feel you’d probably have an easier time selling a matching rifle in a repro stock..

Hot take, coming from a guy who usually doesn't deal with duffles. I don't mind this one, the full length hand guard offers a nice vertical line, and duffle is horizontal, so it kind of compliments the already present line. It's also near even withe gas ports and fore end, giving it good balance.
