This is really getting out of hand..

$600 for an swp with the birds knocked out and counterbored? I'll wait and see how well these sell. If the sell good, I'm shipping them an all matching one to sell for me at full price - $9999.99

But they come with a cleaning rod guys what a bargain lol. And if a rc gun sells for close too a $1000 what does that make are bolt mismatched guns worth now?

I'm no expert by any stretch, but I had the same reaction to the prices. The import marks on a few of them looked really large and placed near the rear sight base as oppose to the bottom of the barrel or somewhere else unobtrusive. I couldn't quite make out the importer, but it looked like someone out of Illinois.

For what it's worth, they seem to be selling though their limited surplus items really fast. Both Spanish 1916s and Swedish M38s went quick. They had run of the mill M48 Yugos that Aim has had in stock for months that they blew out in minutes. I think they've got MAS 36s and 49/56s coming up soon and I'm interested to see the pricing.

If you really want an swp...I can see springing that...and that was the cheapest of the 8...

But, yeah, in general they are completely nuts...but I bet they sell them all...that's how crazy it is.

Honestly, I am out of the 98k game unless I luck into something, the prices have gone completely insane.

I am switching to Gew 88's and M95's...

That's an easy question to answer: $850.

Because the same jerkwad who drops $600 to get a peened RC with an intact "war eagle" will not ever look at a bolt mismatch. That "collector" tends to dwell in his own collecting habitat and will spend an extra $400 to make each of his RC's more correct before he will ever simply spend more to get the more original rifle when given that opportunity. Strange but true. Almost like an episode of Twilight Zone or watching someone take a Hershey bar over 10 free ounces of silver.

I have to agree with Pisgah. These collector's think matching guns are $4000 so the blindly believe the sales price is fair. It's similar to the guys that buy Mitchell's Mauser's not really understanding anything about German rifles. I can buy a matching 98k for $1000, might be worn but it would beat a counter bored RC any day.

At least (with allowances for the "war eagle" puffery) these are being accurately and honestly sold as RCs with the counterboring prominently highlighted. As a new collector, I'm far more concerned by the dishonesty and outright humping that seems so prevalent in the secondary market (Gunbroker, etc.). To me these seem to be honest caveat emptor sales and far better than the "custom" work of the Illinois SS depot.

"it got the black cupped butt plate"

My dream has come true. I always wanted a black butt plate K98 in my collection.
Or maybe the "heavy stainless steel cupped butt plate"

They will sell because there are those that are just getting into collecting these and for many, this may be the only way to get an example of a German k98.

Truth be told, if I were looking to get my 1st and these were all I had a choice of, I'd probably spring for one.

NONE of us are getting any younger and the days of being patient are disappearing, besides, who am I to tell anyone else how to spend the money they work for?

In regards to the video.....kind of reminds me of nutnfancy's ridiculous video about Mitchell's wares.....

EDIT to add: 999.99 BYF R/C ....... yeah...... BYF Boy You're Full of shite......

I guess now is the time to offer my 42 1940 RC for sale on Gunboards trader...

Classic Firearms

This morning, I saw the email from Classic. After watching the video, I immediately came over here to see if a discussion had been started on the topic.

Glad to see you guys have the same opinion as me on this offering of rifles...

Oh Dave you would buy one if it had a scope mount on it. :biggrin1:

I'm thinking these won't sell as fast as they think but I could be wrong. But I have seen people pay huge amounts of money for turd rifles.
