He actually advertises on his web page that he fixes these "cracks" which we know are "not cracks". Hence why 10x years ago I fixed a similar seam thinking that I was doing the correct thing, luckily it was on a shooter grade rifle which is no longer in my collection.

In Apfeltors defense, if you look on his website, he is not saying that you need to fix the seam at the bottom. If you look at his examples, there is a crack from hole to hole in the back that is repaired. That is a crack that you need to fix, not the seam at the bottom. Big difference.
