Have tried many, including period armorer sight hood reverse pliers. I think this is the best I've found yet, and $8.99, not $39.99. The set I got look different, are chrome vandium steel, nickeled surface. Work perfect, fit in between the sight hood inside walls and the front sight sides. Extra bonus is the ends fit perfectly into the recoil lug spanner holes and could be used to remove and tighten it if not seized up. I don't recommend this though as not using the proper spanner or tool is the source of idiot marks.

pliers

I was lucky enough to get an old pair of transmission inside snap ring pliers. It has serations on the fingers. It really helps the hood from flying off.. It's one tool I did'nt have to buy or find.. ALso looking at flea markets swap meets will yeild cheap tools. That are no longer used for thier original purpose..

These are my favorite sight hood pliers

This set came out of Norway a couple of years back. The work perfectly and are a very hard steel. Appears to be a field armorer's creation with the sight adjustment tool attached. Any comments?

I've got a set of those out of Norway with the front sight adjustment tool on the cleaning kit chain with the hood tool. The ones I just bought, linked above, much work better, though they aren't originally for the K98k  The original ones from Norway I've seen sell for $300, and the above are $8.99.

Seems that those pliers are no longer available. Any other suggestions?

Since the original post I have found this style and use them. They are much better than the round snap ring style as they are flat at the ends so the dont slide about on the inside of the sight hood. Make sure you get a set sufficiently flat and thin that when you put the hood on there is sufficient space between the sides of the front sight and inside of the hood to extricate the pliers.

Found these at O’Rielly’s. They have worked well so far.

Works like a charm…

I think I’d make sure I was wearing safety glasses! & maybe do it in a closet.
getting the strings just right is rather fiddly, but after watching the vid, I like the idea of a “no-scratch” installation. I have piston ring pliers similar to those in post 9. What’s not made clear in the video is that you need to be good with knots & use good quality & proper type of cord. (probably NOT paracord)

After going over this thread I set out to find a set of pliers. I found this pair on ebay for $20 and they work perfect. Just added a little bit of electrical tape to the ends. Stamped “BONNEY B21 USA” and theyre actually electropenciled “USAF”
