Good Morning All,

I acquired this rifle about a year ago and have been looking it over and would like some insight on a few things and any info the experts can provide. It is a German K98 1940 Borgiswalde (243). It does not have an import stamp anywhere on the rifle. Mostly matching minus the bolt shroud, cocking piece, safety and firing pin. The stock has been sanded, cleaned and finished....tastefully in my opinion, but it did wipe out some stock markings. It has a good bore and functions properly. The sling looks period correct as well. Sight is not grooved for a hood. Are the 4 pieces that are incorrect and field armorer replacement? Let me know your thoughts on the rifle. It filled a hole in my collection and its not going anywhere. Thanks for any insight.

I guess it's possible that the bolt guts were replaced by a field armorer. But I think these were replaced postwar.

Thanks. I know it’s a long shot and highly speculative to figure out what may have happened through the years. Reading through many of the posts there is so much info out there. Figured I would run it through this forum with Subject Matter Experts.

Got a 40 Borsigwalde myself. Wonder what time period in 1940 it was produced? maybe earlier in 1940. Also notice your cleaning rod is stamped 02. Heard they were marked until 41. Mine is correct length but shows no marking. Probably switched during the war as mine is a bringback from my father. Thanks for sharing.

Nice. I don't see the Borgiswalde's up for sale has much as other manufacturers. Does yours have a duffle cut?

No duffle cut. Yeah they may be more rare than other makers like BYF 44s often seen.

If production was fairly consistently linear, I'd say yes based on production totals. 2nd or 3rd week of May, 1940 sounds about right.

My AR41 has an Eagle26 stamp on the back of the safety lever.
But overall your 243 looks amazing! Very good condition!
The best is the matching cleaning rod. How long they numbered the rods at Borsigwalde?

I have read that the rods were typically numbered through 1941 and then for the most part stopped after that. Thanks for the kind words about the rifle.
