The first Mauser B series .22 rifles and the "Grooved" ES 340B

Just a picture showing what you explained : from top to bottom ES340N, ES350N and MS420N grooved barrel.
I just realize that the DRGGM is missing on the ES340N barrel

The next one from top to bottom ES340B Grooved,, ES340N Grooved, ES350N and ES350B (if not on the picture, i got the numbered rear sight) showing that the grooves length is shorter

Your photos show the differences well, thank you. A picture is worth a thousand words.

looking through Jon Speeds book, the earliest large actions Showed up shortly after serial number 81000, with previous numbers made on the small action, but you certainly have a large action on your 79000 numbered rifle. I guess nothing is impossible with Mauser smallbores. Thank you for showing your rifle

edit,I was thinking of the miissing DGRM and that lead me to questions, is the serial number of the barrel identical in font With the receiver? Any difference in size or style? does the barrel have the other usual proofs and the 459?

The smalest s/n that I recorded for ES340N with sliding safety is 81286 (the one I posted a photo on last Sunday), it's another topic.

The serial number (79710) is stamped on both barrel and receiver (last three digits on the bolt, safety and "edit not wood" stock), fonts seem identical.. The caliber code 459 is stamped on the barrel. The usual proof crowned BUG is stamped on the barrel and the receiver.

eurydice, I measured the barrels of my 3 grooved barrel variants along with a typical ES350B and a ES340B , The measurements are shown in the photo. Simply used a tape measure and measured from the action to the crown. That is interesting that your ES350N has a shorter barrel. Edit.. I just measured an ES340N and it has about the same shorter measurement as your ES350n . Your opinion that these are not simply un-numbered ES350N barrels seems to be valid .at leasView attachment 308253View attachment 308254
Hello Oldwing, the rifle on the left is what model ? Got one just like it,mint.
Dieter

Hello lendie, that rifle is am MS420N with a grooved barrel, though from a top view It cannot be distinguished from an ES340N .
It is a repeater where the ES340N is a singleshot. Is yours a singleshot or repeater? Does the rear sight mount using grooves on the barrel? Mw

Yup, grooves on barrel ,fancy rear sight, checkering on wrist and fore arm very pretty dark walnut stock checkering or cross hatching on
bottom of trigger guard.Single shot, grooves on barrel dont have #.

dieter, with the checkering it may be you hve an ES350 or ES350N. Couple of questions, does your safety slide back and forth ot does it rotate some when applied? Is your rear sight removable by loosening a thumbwheel?

Safety slides back and forth, thumbwheel on left side of sight.Serial # 80959. No mounting cut out in the grooves like the pic's above, mounts from back of receiver.
Dieter

Dieter, your rifle would be an ES350.
The ES350N was built on a slightly larger receiver but looked almost identical.

These models aren't commonly found and in mint condition is a great find. Congrats on owning it. If photos are possible you might start a new thread of it. It would be enjoyable to see it.

I have 141890 with all the K guns characteristics but no k on this one. Grooved barrel adj. rear and removable front sights. All matching numbers and matching on the safety parts. Very nice original blue and varnish. Pictures later on.
Mauser used K as a chamber date on its Luger production in 1934 so maybe that is why?
