T-Gewehr Part Needed

Good Evening All,

I have recently purchased the T-Gewehr that was on GB. It is all matching but somewhere between the seller and the unboxing in Miami, I am missing the large action bolt with the through hole. As I prepare to have a machinist make a new one, I am giving this a long shot with an ask of you. Is there one out there in bucket of bolts. I did notice an older thread in which a member had some parts. Sent Volks an email and have fingers crossed.

In a few months, I will be posting a range report. Cases and bullets are being made and will be close to original specifications.

Thanks,
Randy

Let me know if you need dimensions. I'm happy to get you them off mine if that will help you make a repro.

I hope the seller of that one realized these were exempt from NFA destructive devices lol.

Thanks. I do have the specs from an original and will probably see it completed next week. However, I would like to have an original of course.

Seller did know all we needed was two C&Rs.

Okay great, if it's the one I'm thinking of it was a great example that sat a lot longer than I thought it would.

I think part of it was the guy listing on behalf of the seller thought it was a destructive device.

Congrats!

The GB seller was the shop that the actual owner formerly worked for.

My thought on why it sat was the price and the rifle being sold As Is with no returns. Might have been to much for most folks along with not being able to see it F2F.

Randy

Good Evening,

With the help of Scott (Georgia) and Brian (Manitoba) I have successfully replaced the missing large action bolt. Now just waiting "patiently" on cartridge components and dies. Randy

Good Morning All,

Now it's time to get a bit picky. As you can see in the above image, the bolt is blued and the T-Gewehr has the browned finish. I would like to match up the bolt and am open to suggestions on chemical solutions and processes. Thanks, Randy

Brownells makes a barrel browning solution. Mixtures of vinegar, peroxide and salt will brown also. “Patina” is simply a light layer of rust (as is bluing). This is simply a bolt, so you can experiment until the desired finish is achieved. It can always be reblued. Vinegar is an acid, so don’t leave parts immersed. Look online for methods of browning parts

Good Morning,

I have aged some musket ramrods using vinegar, H2O, and salt. Worked very well but got the blue/black look not brown. I did not try altering the concentrations and might be able to do so with the bolt. Much easier working in a cup versus a 4' tube. Thanks, Randy

For rust bluing, I've used a solution of peroxide, salt and a tiny bit of vinegar.

Good Afternoon All,

With help from Scott (Georgia), Brian (Manitoba), Mathew (Florida), Matt (Baltimore), plus many online colleagues, the T-Gewher goes to the range, with reloaded ammunition, in two weeks. Thank you all! Randy
