Good Afternoon,

Trying to understand what is the purpose of some T-Gewehr's sights having a metal bar on their underside with a corresponding slot cut into the stock. Thanks, Randy

The "keel" was added as a production enhancement to improve stability and fit between the stock and action. One of several improvements that occurred over the course of manufacture. Not addressed by Kern but will be detailed in the reference I am working on.

Was the issue related to some kind of rotation of the action? The cut appears rounded on the ends so unrelated to recoil?

Thanks all! I was wondering what was going on and how fast changes came with a weapon that was not on the scene so long. Randy

The keel is perfectly rectangular. The short ends squared-off at right angles. The corresponding inlet to the stock has rounded ends; I suspect from the routing process. Agreed, not recoil related. It doesn't appear that anyone with any level of authority was concerned about the recoil. Those firing the weapon probably felt otherwise .....

The keel is close to where the heavy projectile enters the rifling. with no magazine box to help stabilize the action I wonder if the keel counteracted the rotational forces on firing. Do you find earlier models with with no keel in new style stocks?
