SWP 45....Thoughts?

Hi All,

Thought I would make a pest of myself and seek your opinions on a rifle I have the opportunity to buy.

It's a SWP 45, with odd looking metal and a stock that seems to be in great condition (and was, once upon a time, a Gew).

There are some strange markings on the receiver and the seller has stated there is a small Israeli marking on it (which discourages me, I'd prefer a WW2 only vet)

Does it look like it's worth picking up? It doesn't come cheap at $800 and I'm not overly excited about it at face value..

postwar circa 1948 Czech manufactured from leftover and some new made parts parts , Czech lion proofed on action lhs plus Isr markings and its comprised of mixed re-numbered mismatched parts sitting in an Isr (NOT GEWEHR) stock with a Isr sling - oh, and nothing that can be seen is in any great condition - whats the bore like and its 7.62 is it or still in 7.92?

pass unless you can get it dirt cheap

Yes - that's a nice Israeli K98 that looks like it may still be in the original 8mm. The 8mm are hard to find and quite collectable to someone interested in Israeli mausers. Most of them have been converted to 308 and have '7.62' stamped on the top of the receiver and under the heel of the butt.

Thanks, guys. I wasn't taken with the pics and my enthusiasm evaporated pretty quick when i saw them, esp the receiver and action.(ad just said late war K98). It's still chambered for the 7.92 x 57 round.

I feel like I've seen this one before, but I have to save these pictures..

If Marion Berry had a K98.

LOL is right...

On a serious note, I like the Czech post-war 98k's. Interesting how this one has a regular style bolt, and not the late war type that I see on a lot of these post-war 98k's.

Also interesting (well to me any way) is the fact that this one lacks the Hebrew character to denote it is still in the original 7.92 chambering on the right side of the buttstock. Usually this character, shaped like an "n", is present and filled with white paint.

Neat rifle and a hard to find variation of the Israeli K98k.
