Stock question

Looking over one of my rifles and I noticed this mark on the stock where the sling would go through looks like an L to me did they ever mark rifles here?

Yes, some manufacturers would stamp internal inspection and process stamps there, Mauser Oberndorf in particular seems fond of stamping their stocks with these markings, both my 1940 and 1943 MO K98ks are marked there.
