I would just like some opinions before I bid on a sportarized mostly matching G98/40 at a local auction. The gun is missing the front band and will need a new stock. Opinions on: Is it even worth it to pick up? If so, what would a going rate for this be? Ive scoured the internet for most of the last week searching for something similar and parts. A

that's a really tough model to try to piece back together. your only option for a stock set is likely going to be a reproduction set from Fox in Poland. I'm not sure if anyone is making any repro stock hardware. I've bought 3 or 4 in the last couple of years. They have ranged anywhere from $150-200 and i ended up selling them to guys who sell parts on the internet for $350-4.

I agree with Swede, Pay $200 max and you can always sell it for parts. A front band for a 98/40 is as scarce as chicken lips and a repo stock is very expensive. o_O

Thanks guys. I did pass on this as it did go very high. Ive got deals from this local auction but this one did go sky high.... $660.00 with 10% premium.
