Brooksy; solid Spandau from a tough year. I have a very similar one that managed to escape any major work. Not many like this out there.

Interesting it's not unit marked; neither is my 1911. My 1909, 12 and 13 Spandaus are though. Funny how that works out.

Strange my 1912 Spandau is not unit marked either. Funny how that works lol. Still, a very nice scarce rifle Brooksy. Thank you for sharing.

You see more non-unit marked Gews after 1906 and 1907. My speculation—pure speculation—is that most of the active army and navy had received the new weapons by 1906/7 and those made after were stockpiled for mobilization. Then some were handed out when replacements were needed. You see unit marked Kars in this period so the practice clearly hadn’t stopped. You don’t see many unit marked Gews (except the Prussian Ambergs and Bavarian WMOs) until Germany mobilized in 1914.

Great lookng Gew 98 Brooksy. Looking at this rifle makes me miss my Spandau 1911 Gew 98 but it went to a good home. I have two Gew 98's made by Spandau and dated 1900 with unit marks. My other Spandau made Gew 98 is dated 1902 with no unit mark.
