I am back, tired and broke.

The highlight of the show was meeting all of the friends and board members who stopped
by, helped out with bringing guns for shots, and just saying hello. Without you guys, this
collection stuff would not be worth the effort as one cannot exit with just toys.

Again, Mike and I really appreciate all the help.

Thanks to Denny G. for offering his table space for a substitute photo table/backdrop, although Mike and I did help sales at his table with all the commotion.

All the guys who brought stuff for photos - massive appreciation from both of us.

There were some accidental buying opportunities as well as guns found on tables.

I will apologize to Craig B. for buying an EWB reworked Kar98 with capture papers.
It was cool enough to put in the lead in chapter.

I will post photos in a day or so.

Thanks to all again.

No apologies required. Looked at the same piece but passed on it because I have one (altho original EWB, not reworked) and the papers had no SN listed. If they had the SN it might have been another matter. Another BS/KS Simson restocked K98a did turn up, however... along with a couple of flat new M71s, a Kar 88 issued to the Hamburg police, and a Reichsrevolver cutaway. "A good time was had by all." Beans and rice for the next 3 months.

I had a great show as well, and really enjoy the camaraderie more than anything. Nothing like staying up late every night talking about guns! I saw a lot of reasonable prices at the show too and even "left some on the table" so to speak- once you and all of your buddies are broke it doesn't matter what you find...

Nice to meet a few new guys in person (Ryan E) but sad that I missed out visiting with some past friends-- I would have like to have visited with Peter S more than 10 seconds! There was just a lot going on at this show.

Also, props to Stana for flying in from the Czech republic and hanging out with us. A really great guy, and proof that no matter what country, a collector is a collector. He entertained with great stories and taught us all some Czech language, which I will be studying hard. Bruce has a new name as well - "Turbo Myš"

The guns folks brought for photos were amazing, some just awesome stuff. Can't wait to get cracking again and get it all in! Thanks again for all the assistance!

It was great to finally meet a lot of the other board members all of whom were as cool in person as they are on the board. I had a absolutely fantastic time hanging out with Mike and Bruce. I will definitely be making the trip next year.

Stana from Czech

Stana,

It was great to meet you in person, and great to get Czech language schooling. I work on it every day, people think I am crazy- if they only knew what I was telling them. :)

I had a great time!

I had a great dinner with Bill Grist, Barry and his other friends, and Mike C (Radom) and his wife who is a great pleasure to be around

I had a great night out with Mike (Farb), Bruce, Brad, Brian and company before I left

I look forward all year to seeing Dave R....

All of these guys are truly good people, such fun to be around...you know the type that you can talk to like youve known them all your life

there are others too that I enjoy seeing, like Mel...saw Mike Prucey there which was cool too

I was glad to make a new friend in Stan, what a great guy, I almost couldnt believe what a great guy he was....I cant wait until next year, I wish we all lived closer and could do it more often

We began making plans on renting a van, and ala the movie "Old School" kidnapping Ham to get him there next year...we will have to make stops by Jack's and Eric's too

For those that have never been there, here is a snapshot of how things go down in the shark infested waters of the gun and militaria buying and selling frenzy that is the SOS...NONE of the following short story has been embellished for your entertainment either :

My show was SLOOOOOWWW...but I wanted it to be, I told myself I wasnt going to buy anything, unless really really nice condition....aside from the guys mentioned here, and Mike Prucey, ONE guy that asked about it, knew what he was looking at when he saw my AC45 with a walnut stock and original unnumbered mount rig on my table for decoration (or for sale for huge money), that was little disappointing....well despite the fact that I told myself not to go buying anything, I admit deep down I was feeling a little dejected, not having found a nice gun (esp. a GK43...but I wasnt really looking hard)...SO : I was at the gun show side just as it opened...I had walked around like crazy, was fed up and about to leave, standing one spot, looking around arms folded, bottom lip out pouting, when I see this old guy about 25 yards away pull what I could tell was an attic fresh 98k out of a sleeve : ya know he was one of those old guys that come to the show to BS more than anything, has an old shotgun, old huntin rifle....and this mauser....so imagine me in slow motion, running, pushing over old ladies, stepping on little kids, and I dive head first and do a mid air roll and snatch it from his hands as he is about to put it down...I land on my back, broke an arm and tailbone, but of course the gun was perfectly safe and in my clutches...so I look it over...it was so nice bluing wise that i couldnt believe...you all that arent 98k geniuses like Farb know what I mean : it looks almost too good, one begins to question oneself...so Im calling desperately on the cell phone, finally thank God Bruce answers and Im sure I sounded like an insane person so he gave the phone to Farb who speaks insane...he gives me the OK via what I told him on the phone....I call Brian, I know he's at the Gun show side, for moral support....then, like an angel sent from heaven Bud P. appeared and blessed the rifle...so I negotiate...the old guy gives me one of those "Well, I was on the other side and I saw these that werent as nice selling for $2500" ....usually, 9 out of 10 times, that is total BS and they have junk just like the other overpriced junk that they were looking at to base their value on, but this guy....this guy was right....well I bit the bullet and paid alot, but not what it is worth, and I felt much better about myself...it is a dot44, semi-kriegs stock five digit serial

then the same old guy has of all things, a dual marked AC45 G43 K43 no letter block gun...a really scarce variation...but alas it was sanded through the wrist and some genius polished the hell out of the bolt carrier, so I passed on it

so I got that dot44...and an unmarked bayonet w scabbard that is almost mint with wood grips for $100

sold a few trinkets to pay for my trip expenses so it was all good

OH and I rolled to the show in a 2011 Cadillac DTS too...but that is a whole other story...they really do drive nice!!! :biggrin1:

You guys obviously had WAY too much fun without me.... Next year I'm gonna have to find the time to get away from school and head over there! :biggrin1:

k98 story

Of course,Bruce handed the phone to farb he doesnt speak ''dot' either...
sounds like a nice rifle..5 didgit rifle in a corn cob stock..yummy

That dot44 is as nice as they get, and the quintessential late war rifle with the chatter marked stock. I didn't tell you, but we stopped at a Cadillac dealer and made Stan buy a new DTS like yours. Dave is exporting it for him. Ok, I made that part up.

Hi Guys,
The show was sweet 4 sure.
Stana, it was great to meet you in person. Send me a message with your email when you have time.
I also got to meet RyanE in person too. Great to have younger collectors aboard.
It was great to hang out with the gang again.
Bruce , Mike , Bud, and I spoke with Bill Grist (sending you my email via PM), Dave, Arch (Arch,ya got to bring that bolt next SoS), and spoke several times with Rich Milton.
Guys, I told Bruce, but not sure if I mentioned it to anyone else, but my cell reception was very spotty this time and worked intermittently, so I ended up spending the nights with the locals.

As for hardware- I picked up a super late BCD 45 , thanks to Dr. B ! You still have the touch man. Your K98k ‘magnet’ should be studied at Fermi Lab.
I also picked up a fairly late Japanese Pole Bayonet, a K98k complete Armorers Bolt (E/140 body with e/135 parts). A byf, e/655, K98k Armorers Stock. A blued, ‘L’ proofed, unnumbered K98k Armorers Bayonet Mount, a pair of K98k stock discs for a friend, and managed to drop of some “goodies” to two close friends.

When I walked by your table, you were sitting down with it on your lap.
You could tell the world stopped to exist at that moment with that in your lap.
Man was that stock blond, chatty, and dry!!

Don, I will remember to bring it when you rememind me.

I have a hard time believing you picked up those other parts, I had that place covered :biggrin1:

I got there about 1pm Thu and me thinks the table holders vacuumed up alot of the 98 goodies during set-up? Only rifle I dragged home was a T99 made in Hiroshima . Ate some KY BBQ with my son and had a great time with him, and only saw Archie/ R Simpson/ Richard M. Met Gerard too. Not many trainers either... always next yr...
