Schutztruppe photographs

Couple Schutztruppe photographs that came in this week from Germany. One of them shows a soldier with a Gew88 rifle, and the other Model 1871 Jager rifle. Unfortunately, no dates or names on the back of them. Even still cool to see, and happy to share them with you all.

Very nice pictures.....Craig Brown would have liked them very much. Someplace I have a copy of one of his pictures. If I can find it I can post it later.

Thank you for the kind words Peter. And I know he would. The Schutztruppe weapons, and items. Were a favorite subject for him to talk about. I always enjoyed reading the articles, and threads of info. He posted on anything Schutztruppe related.

I have copies of both of these photos. Many of these photos are taken before or during The Herero Rebellion of 1904-07. Both of these photos were taken in Windhoek. The Herero Rebellion caught the Schutztruppe and Kaiserliches Gouvernement Polizei in GSWA completely by surprise and they needed reinforcements. A call went out in Germany for volunteers and 19,000 volunteers joined to put down the Rebellion.

Thanks for sharing. I really have to dig out my flash drive, it has photos from a three week trip I took to Namibia. Lots of Imperial German related photos.

I’d be curious if these men fought alongside the African Kaiser during the war and minor skirmishes before the war.
