Beautiful rifle Dave and stunning condition too. Makes me wonder where you find them sometimes only pieces I find around here our fake put together pieces. And a low three digit serial number too even better.

Hi Dave
that is a beauty .... congrats .
can you add a picture of serial number on the rear foot ?
best regards,
Happy Christmas !

As the "sniper hoarding" continues!!!! Super rifle. Thanks for sharing, with great pics, as always.

Regards, Al

Xavier , I did not post a Pic of #erd Rear Middle Section because it does not have a Number on it . I can't say why , maybe it was replaced at some point or never numbered . At this point it is a mystery . Best Regards .

Thanks Dave. I figured it was a Sauer but could not see a number on the rear base so was not sure.

Really neat!!!!

I'm still trying to learn the scheme of the snipers. How or rather where does this fit in with Sauer's SLR and LSR program? Were they doing these with the SLR's and LSR's? Thanks in advance for the education.

Hard to be exact on time frame on Sauer built Snipers. I think SSR late 1942 to 1943. Low Turrets 1943 to early 1944. High Turrets 1944. LSR mostly late 1944 (mostly built on a BCD 4 receiver). These were the last built before switching to MP44 production I think. CE stamped on receiver LSR is hard to find. Swept Back Snipers also late 1944 and also rare. There are not many of any of these left to examine. I hope someone can add to this.

Ooops, I meant SSR not SLR. Just realized what I put.

So, is it safe to say Sauer was doing the LSR's and HT's at the same time maybe? I know there are some really early Sauer LSR's ('43 into '44), but not many. I really had no idea there were any Sauer HT's (All this time I thought only Mauser did the HT's). Forgive me, I'm learning and trying to understand the snipers.

It's puzzling that the Germans never committed to one sniper design, you know, like the rest of the planet did. My understanding is wartime arms production is that there was a fair amount of rivalry between different companies. Is this baffling array of snipers a result of this?

if allowed, I would say that the German attention and effort were mainly focused, and well before the war, on the MG as squad weapon_ (those Germans seemed, at me, well different than the rest of the planet, indeed)_ on infantry tactics, the attention about sniping seems coming only after the invasion of Poland, and mainly from the reports (a.k.a. casualties) of their frontline troopers, often WSS_ despite the fascination of German SSG's and the related propaganda, all their WW2 story seems ever a "late" effort, well differently than their Russian counterpart _
