I had been looking for a nice JPS for a while…and well, this one IS a JPS but not exactly the belle of the ball. Interestingly this is the first K98 I’ve ever located in the wild, at Bass Pro of all places. On the tag it said “parts gun, $450”. The supervisor asked me if I was going to take “this bag of parts home with me.” I offered $400 on it and he accepted.
The barreled action, stock, buttplate, ejector box, and sights match, while the bands, triggerguard and floorplate look to be from an early 44 Oberndorf. Bolt is a mutt. Has an unrepaired duffle cut and missing handguard and band spring, and initials “LPS” scratched in the stock. This thing has been through it!
So…anyone got a spare handguard and band spring lying around?
