S15 Gottscho

It has been awhile since I have been on the boards, life has been pretty busy for me this past summer! So I decided to stop in and show one of my latest acquisitions that is really cool. Alot of cool features on this imperial bayonet such as the narrow heavy fullered thick blade,unique handle and especially the two piece pommel. I found one imperial acceptance on the blade spine. What can you all tell me about this unusual bayonet! Thanks!

Its a emergency production of early war period, interesting Gottscho bayonet, it was destined for Gew98 system rifles. 25 should be a number, which could be on scabbard too.

Very nice S14 Type II bayonet. As Andrej indicated, in collector terminology a "Gottscho" bayonet colloquially based on the maker. In this case with the "crucible" Gottscho-Rothgiesser (RG) maker's stamp with long R. This example is in the S series with the SS stamping above/left of the crucible GR. The second S is barely visible. The acceptance on the spine is a crowned gothic G with is typical for this variation. Scarce piece and nice to see with the correct scabbard.

Thank you very much Andy and Slash for your comments! After reading Ian Jacksons book on the S14 I now stand corrected on the correct terminology for the S14 Type II bayonet! It was really hard to see that second "S" on the racasso thanks for verifying it as a double "S" RG. I do feel very fortunate to have found this piece also with the original correct scabbard. Thanks again to you both!
