RyanE and Lugers

you are simply not looking close enough at the right details.
There are collector fields with much more advanced "fakes" than these gun hacks.
Not enough $'s here.

I consider this list to be the BEST for many reasons.
It is not mucked up with all the crap that started coming along when folks other than a few hard-core collectors started seriously chasing these.

What a ridiculous statement. You certainly have a right to your own opinion(s) regarding Gibson's list as well as other areas but ..... The list is the best because it contains only information from those you deem "hard-core" or somehow otherwise worthy enough to contribute? So the observations and additions from other researchers or collectors at that time as well as subsequently are "crap?" I suppose this viewpoint is one way to control the narrative. Interesting elitist commentary.

I see I have been noticed by the powers that be.
Progress.
Interesting post BTW.

I stand by that statement. Earlier fakes are often just a DWM doctored up. Simple to tell.
You will be seeing this play out again in the next few years with "PX" or is it "cigarette guns", take your pick.
Note that now serial number 377 or is it 378 and serial number 2 are accepted by the folks you are referring to as good.
If a DWM with 1 fake stamp and a plain mess with "possibly" a HK frame and 1 other fake stamp are now accepted as legit the floodgates will be bursting at the seams.

Should actually thank your "insurgency" as three of the last 4 HK lugers I have bought were under $2.500.00.
Black plastic grip Mauser lugers are now sometimes bringing over triple that.

Well over a million Mauser lugers produced may not be a large number to some but it is plenty compared to 12,000 [roughly] HK P.08's.

VERY familiar with Ryan's viewpoints and opinions.
Are you?
You will find many, many examples of flaws in his arguments if you look into all the fun we have had together.

BTW I find your last two sentences priceless. Only comment would be "REALLY".

Just noticed you left an important part out of your quote.
" Gibson's book had a lot to do with this"
Rather important part.

You familiar with "Costanzos" proof book?
If yes note "stork legs" E2.
After that book came out the Ralph crew made a stamp to match that.
Quite common and often referred to as "pterodactyl".

The 90's is when I actually bought my first HK [and got fried] but it was a valuable lesson.
Has not happened since.
Mid 90's saw the influx of much better-quality faking.
Mid 90's fake HK mags still fool many.
To include the many "1917 Navy" lugers with the very slightly odd proofs.

The earlier fake crap is much lesser quality.
Look at 11278 in Gibson's book.
Both as a 1940 and a 1941.
Pretty obvious hack job.
