Russian Capture Resources

New guy just getting into the hobby/forum, so sorry if this isn't the right place to post! Anyone have any good info/reading for RCs? I'm finding myself to really love them and want to know more besides just the standard info that's out there.

Welcome to the forum, I am new here as well but a longtime collector. I have 15 RC and a few Yugo K98k rifles as well. Collecting these old battle rifles is very interesting and these RCs have been there that is for sure.

Welcome. The underlying rifle has much history then Combloc history is added when the Soviets reworked them. That phase is what it is. They stripped most of them into parts, sanded the stocks and Soviet shellacked them, vibropencil rematched and refinished them to be put in storage to give to combloc clients or revolutions. They were sold here. I remember in the 90s when they were like $99.

I have a half dozen RC's purchased twenty years ago from Empire Arms and hand picked in Russia by the owner, Dennis Kroh. Each now has an original sling, cleaning rod and front sight hood if needed. They still have the original Russian shellac on them. Some don't have the X indicating Soviet capture. Other than the numbers, they are the picture of the German battle rifle. I am glad to have them as they are an intricate part of WWII history where 80% of equipment loss and causalities were in inflicted.

Wow only $99 back in the 90s!! Certainly have gone up as the surplus dries up and I suppose collector interest has grown.

RC Pistols can be nice. Most are matching or near matching. Ive seen some very nice RC P-38’s that are matching for a decent price. They are all “dipped” but a good chunk dont even have the X on them.

An RC P38 is on my list for must haves. One of these days I’ll come across one. They seem to be in relatively good shape and the history is always nice.

Kind of a follow up question on that, were P38s typically only given to officers?

German military doctrine was pistol heavy. Staff Officers were actually required to buy their own pistols - p38’s were issued to NCO’s, mg gunners, drivers, artillerymen, paratroopers, etc. Lots of German servicemen were issued pistols compared to Americans.

I hear German sani’s (medic’s) had them on the eastern front as Russians would still shoot medics.

I have 4 of the P38 pistols all matching but the Mags. Mags are war time made though, several were really good finds and well worth the money! I bought P1 holsters for them and several P1 pistols too, shoot the P1 and save the P38s!
