I recently had obtained the attached shown Mauser 98 action, configured as Stutzen, in 6,5x68 caliber. The proof stamps on the right side of the barrel indicate this rifle was made in 1941, with a pre-proof stamp dating to May 1941, and the final proof to December 1941. The engraving is pretty outstanding, this rifle must had been the pretty high end that was available. Even the plates around the small screws on the stock foreend are engraved. The magazine can be opened on bottom. The only bad is that it came without the scope. If I find a corresponding scope I may have claws fitted to these bases since this one would look even better when carrying a scope again. Note the rifle has an additional trigger safety switch added right at the back of the action.

The 6,5x68 caliber was invented in 1939 by August Schüler. It is a very remarkable cartridge with super high velocity from around 900m/s (almost 3000 fps) up to 1500m/s (almost 5000 fps), using bullet weights between 93 to 127 grain. It was meant as a high velocity cartridge to be used in mountain hunting.

I think I may even have somehwere a catalogue which mentions them as new introduction. Got to dig a bit to find it ...
