.. there recently was a Gl.V. marked all matching blued Amberg 1918 dating Gew98 for sale on eGun. I requested additional pictures. Prior to getting any reply someone else used the BIN option. I couldn't make out the serial, otherwise I would had posted it.

Thanks guys, that gun seems to be right at the very end of production.

Thanks for the great contribution Paul! 4565u is the new low number for Amberg, these are the first two 'u' block guns I've been able to add.

Yes, I noticed it and I went through Amberg/17 from the beginning, - that was a lot of looking for nothing! But we must eliminate these periods where the sight modification didn't exist and the first step must be sorting through those observations that wouldn't apply. At least we have a slightly clearer idea of range to pay extra attention!

Georg's Gl.V Amberg/18 discussion prompted me to get to 1917, been meaning to do it, but as i was suffix font searching I figured why not do both. On to the other makers!

Amberg 1918 n.4663 e : the serial number of this rifle was already reported from Amberg , now here you have some photos .Unfortunately , due to local pitting , it's readable just the serial number on the barrel . I have completed the rifle with Glasvisier N.5048 .

Seems you finally found the rifle to your scope! Congratulations!

Can you check the bolt handle with the bolt assembly removed, if there is an additional code on the backside? In this area:

Tonino, Thanks for the extra details, I added them to the study thread. I am glad to get the extra details, especially the barrel code and acceptance.

BTW, a wonderful rig (rifle and scope)

Thanks Paul! We've observed a few Amberg rifles that are unmarked but present in the same blocks with marked rifles thus far 1918 dated guns only. I'm thinking the same will be true for Danzig but it hasn't presented itself yet, finding original examples in the known ranges are tough. I thought I had one the other day buy it turned out to be an R block rather than a V, so we will see how that turns out. Wolfgang thinks the overlap is most likely due to the gun not meeting proper accuracy standards, and couldn't be pooled for optics orders, I that's probably the correct answer.

One measurable outcome is generally I've seen specific blocks all be the same (for the most part) base style. For example, all the observed 'hh' and 'ii' block Danzig 1917s have been Oigee style bases. CC block, Danzig 1917s seem to favor Emilbush. It's starting to show a trend where sniper orders were filled in batches and farmed out in groups to the different optics makers.

Mauser 1908 , here we have another serial number for the research : this rifle has surfaced here in Italy , it's completely mismatched but original , look at the photos

1917 Danzig 3679 v Gl.V RS, unknown match to rec. (French river find, only a couple pictures)
1917 Danzig 8606 bb (sniper) Gl.V (French report)
1917 Danzig 7415 cc (sniper) Gl.V

Was going through Danzig/17 files yesterday, these were the only ones found not recorded already. Still need to back check earlier Danzig/17 & Danzig/18, just trying to work a question Wolfgang asked, so far I have not noticed any distinction in the FS from normal/non-Gl.V rifles but very few take detailed shots of the FS (or I do not save pictures of them)

I will try and upload these reports later.

T, if you own or have access to this rifle, can you do clear shots of the right receiver (RR) and serial side (LR)? The RR should be the same whether ee or LL, but I like to be sure. Further there are not many LL confirmed for 1917, three reports, one shows a bad shot of the LS, there are quite a few ee-blocks known but I would like to see a solid-clear LL-block for future comparisons

Loewe , I will try to contact the seller , for the moment I can add this extra photo .
