Picked up this one for my rescue hobby. If the info in R.D.Law's book on pg 145 is correct it looks like one of the Sauer assembled rifles from what was said to be initially rejected receivers? Opinions please!

Interesting! I enjoy restoration jobs even though they won’t return on the investment. What I like is figuring out what parts would be appropriate for a particular receiver which also helps with identifying rifles on auctions or in the wild.

Yes exactly, Not doing it for ROI, just enjoying saving them. I figure most were were some GI's bring back that got re done in the 50's or 60's and now 70+ years later wind up being sold or traded off by un interested people.

Have an AR42 waiting its turn also.

Tough to say from the pictures if it is a true blank receiver or has been 'buffed' post war. The serial numbers from initial examination look post war to me as well.
I had a chance to buy this variation once in RC format, but I didn't realize what it was and missed out. If a legit example, it is a cool variation and well worth restoring.

Quite certain its not a post war buff out. The receiver finish in both metal surface texture and color is uniform top & bottom. The WAa359 is crisp and barrel markings are identical to what's in RDL's book so it appears to be just that.

I'm way behind of the latest ref books so perhaps someone here has more info on this variation

Don't have a laminate flat butt plate stock right now though. I have a WTB in trader section in fact.
