Removing varnish or poly from stock

I recently tried Citristrip [ https://www.walmart.com/ip/CitriStrip-Safer-Paint-Varnish-Stripping-Gel-Quart/17209362] on 2 laminated hand guards /// one red glue one white glue / the stuff removed heavy coatings of poly without damage to the wood or lamination . I cleaned the product off with mineral spirits and let them set to dry out //// no damage to the wood. no delamination, no bleaching evident, they both look 100% as issued.

NO WATER USED !!!!!! Water IS poison to laminated stocks.........

The big problem with stripping stocks is most times people don’t know what exactly is on them. Sometimes it’s environmental, like nicotine/tar and not even a finish applied. Then, people use too harsh of chemicals and ruin the look of a gun. I’m not a purist who leaves every rifle untouched as found, but generally that is my mantra as most people do more harm than good. We’ve all seen it....

I've seen folks attempt to strip stocks with all sorts of stuff, including oven cleaner and bleach . It does not end well, with 90% of the stocks being damaged. And as I have said , over & over ad nauseam,WATER does really bad things, especially to laminated stocks.

By the way Citristrip is not user friendly, if you get careless, and chemical burns take time to heal......
