Reloading Ammo

Hey guys, so in an old post, I realized that shooting 8mm Turkish ammo out of my 1941 Portuguese 98K isn’t a great idea… so I’ve gotten into reloading. Purchased some 200 grain PP Match ammo that I plan on reloading.

Would this be a good load?
Powder: 47 grains Hodgdon H4350
Primer: CCI 200 Large Rifle
Bullet: 175 grain Sierra Pro-Hunter Spitzer

In total, it ends up coming out to 77¢ per round after tax and shipping.

What load you use depends on what you want to do with it . Also it will depend on what bullet and velocity your rifle likes . Do you want to hunt , what , at what range ? Target shoot , at what range ? Or just make the rifle go bang , cheaply ?

Not sure how those will perform but I would aim at the high 2500 fps or right at 2600 fps with a 175 grain bullet. It's near the 178 grain SMK and SME loadings from the Germans which is suppose to be a 178 grain bullet at 2640 or so.

If you are just going for targets the Hornady 150 sp has the best chance for accuracy at 200 yards or less . The SI-175 bullet is usually not too good for accuracy . Trying to duplicate military loads is not the best way to get accuracy .

It is not a boat tail . That bullet is soft , so with the flat base it will bump up if needed to fill the bore [ most rifles are .323 ++ in bore size ] . Between me and a friend of mine we have test fired many different loads in about 80 K98k rifles , the H-150 has the best average for accuracy by a good bit .
