Quick late war Radom P35 question

Make a long story short - I sold this Vis35 a couple months ago and the buyer just contacted me stating the recoil guide rod had the ears broken off.

This is from a “D” block (second letter series) pistol. I never noticed it had a problem and am wondering if this was an oversight on my part, or did the guide rod ever come without “ears” on the end? I’m confused as to why this would ever be altered but if it’s a lemon I certainly want to make it right by the buyer.

I actually saw this posted somewhere, maybe the Luger forum. But agree, I haven’t seen them without the “bunny ears”, did it effect the function?

This was a fixed one piece rod. Function check was fine but buyer had concerns about firing (rightfully so). Re-assembly was a little tricky because it was very hard to keep the rod in place while inserting the take down lever. Anyway, I settled it with the buyer and bought him a new one so all is well.

Just looked at my late war H block. The guide was just a flat tab. No notched ears like a 1911 guide, or earlier Radoms.
