Question on Luger Markings

Recently picked up a 1939 import marked luger. Numbers all match including the magazine which seems unusual for an import mark. Grips have this “W” mark and frame has this “27” burst. Curious if anyone knows the significance.

That is a East German police proof. looks like its on the left side of the frame, usually they are on the right side

grips are repro and do not go with the gun, the grips should be bullseye- brown plastic/Bakelite

need more pictures

That was what I suspected but I wasn’t sure. Will be able to upload some more pics when I get back home.

Do you think the grips are a reproduction or are they wartime grips on a Vopo Gun?

the grips could be a aftermath, someone trying to enhance the luger

it would have had the old wood grips replaced, when it was re-arsenal-ed

love to see more pictures,

you can also pm about cost , etc

Forgot I had some of the pictures the seller sent. I found a decent set of vopo grips, probably try and pick those up.

My understanding is that vopos usually had a plastic bottom magazine base as well, is it unusual to have a matching mag?

there is a set of grips on GB now, a bit high in price. but to replace what should be on the pistol sometimes you have to pay the price

yes some come with bullseye plastic mag bases, most come with two (2) aluminum bases matched to the serial numbers, the sides of the mag may have electric pencil numbers or 1001 stamped, could also a recycled ww2 mag

ok I see the sunburst proof it is where it should be and prominent, its a good example

there is one on GB touted to be a EG vopo I do not see anything other than the grips that make it vopo or even east German for that matter, it has a "X" I have never seen a eg pistol with a "X" G-43's yes

so if that mag is not marked the way I indicated, it is probably a replacement

nice pistol I would not pass, depending on price. but the mags should match and the grips so that will affect the offer price
