Pre-War Mauser metal finish?

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1938 Erfurt (ERMA) mauser rifle. All matching (also bolt) with solid waffemamts. My question is what type of metal finish was used pre-war? This one is highly polished blue (actual color is closer to black than blue). Blueing is consistant on entire rifle including buttplate (which is flat and not the cupped one). Every mauser I have seen is more of a rough finish not polished. What gives? A reblue? All stamping are crisp. I was only able to take one pic when seller wasn't looking. He wanted no pics of his guns. He wants 1K. If finish is original what a deal, but if reblue overpriced. What do yall think?

Looks like a reblue from here but for 1K I would jump on it. Pre war plus rarer code. Blued butt plate is a giveaway.
