Hey guys this K98 just popped up local to me which isn’t common, just wondering if it’s an alright deal he’s saying a local appraiser gave him a a $1,000 value. The finish looks pretty worn to me he’s also saying it’s drilled for a scope but it was done from the factory i don’t know anything about the scoped K98s I have requested some more pictures I don’t know what’s supposed to be stamped on this or not so any info you guys can give me I’d appreciate thank you IMG_1920.jpeg

Junk, total junk. Should have a smooth blued finish. Then some jackass drilled it for a scope. I’ll gave you $500 and my C&R license info and send it to me. I’ll make deer rifle out of it. Thats about all its good for.

Gustloff rifles are not my thing, but unless im seriously mistaken… isn’t this a thick sidewall receiver. Mostly Phosphated parts. Long key sniper safety which is blued (as I understand it, they never phosphated those). Now as to it being a 3 hole gun or LSR, I have no idea but that’s a bcd4 thick sidewalk receiver for sure!

I’m not an expert on these variants but for that asking price I would be taking the risk. The bolt appears to match. Thick sidewall. I don’t think money can be lost on this one…

Suggest what?
I don’t have the expertise on the sniper subject to make the call. However, my gut suggests it may be a LSR instead of a 3 hole that was modified post war. I could be completely wrong on that, but for $1000 asking and it has what appears a matching bolt… I’m taking the chance but that’s just me.

i agree w Mauserguy85. looks to me like a late Gustloff Long Side Rail sniper. I am no expert either, i own a vetted Sauer LSR, i have examined 2 other LSRs, but im not versed enough to make the call to its originality. There are plentyof folks here who can make that call though.

I would sprain my wrist getting my wallet out for 1k

i would consider a new post in the sniper section. better chance the pros will see it sooner. i would say dont clean anything without input from here. Dont touch the wood or disassembly disc. I wouldnt even clean the metal until u get some advice on cleaning phosphate finished rifles. apparently even bronze wool will damage the finish. MrFarb posted a little while back on cleaning phoshpate guns, but i havent been able to dig up the post.
