New to me Portuguese K98. Pleased overall with it. Barrel looks good with my bore light. Can anyone help me decipher the markings? Did they all have a cross on the buttplate?IMG_0567.jpeg

That Portuguese 'cross' appears on the buttplate of most the M937-B contract rifles and is one unique feature of this contract run.
 
That's not the case since a large number of M937-B rifles were diverted to the German Army when the contract went south in 1942.

Pretty sure mine wasn’t bc the barrel looks close to new. Probably spent the last 80+ years sitting in an armory.
 
I'll ask here since it's topical: does anyone know what the deal is with the slings on these? I can't find any markings on mine, but given the condition I assume it's post-war Portuguese. Anyone have any confirmation of that?
