That is the best looking stock I have ever seen on a military weapon. Thank you for posting the pictures!

Welcolme, and thanks for posting. I really wish I had the forethought to buy a few of these when they were first imported..They are basicly the finest example of a k98k that
any of us are likely to find.

Nice stripes ! Guys I have one of these in new condition all matching including bayonet however the safety has a terrible F roughly engraved on it. I see this F about a bit including my other Portuguese 8mm (6.5)

When & where did most of this butchering happen to so many mausers ?

Oh, and the F and S etching on safeties is an Australian Customs import thing. Shame really.

Thanks for that Vulch. It marks an other wise almost perfect rifle. Wish i could get it removed but it may be too deep. Ive often wondered what a jeweller could do to remove or at least lessen it.

I HAVE removed them and successfully rust blued them again. Just have to be very careful around any markings, serial etc.

The newer import requirement is WORSE - small divot/hole drilled on the safety and paint added. There ARE work arounds :)

Ok thanks for that...i would love to get it done. No way in hell will i attempt it as i recon i would damage the serial #. Who would be the best person for this ? The blueing i know of a chap but not for the shitty engraving removal. Gunsmith or as i mentioned someone like a jeweller perhaps ?

I can do it if you want to go that route - that's IF you are in Australia?

Cost? Post it up, send me a lotto ticket. :)

Brisvegas mate. Thank you..i'll msg you in the new year once all the sugar & alcohol has settled.

I am on the Sunshine Coast, so it doesn't have far to travel :)

Whenever you are ready. I should have a new batch of rust blue solution by then too - got a K date to fix :)

Is there a close up photo of the F and S etching on safeties as used in Australia?

In Germany there was a bad customs ordered by law to set a welding point on the 300-meter-mark on the rear sight so that the gun couldn't be used beyond this point

Also the bayonett-holder was removed. This was part of the law of control of war weapons (Kriegswaffenkontrollgesetz).

As well it was out of law to keep the pieces of metal on left and right side (I don't know the suitable expression in the English language) of the front sight of the 30M1 and Garand M1. And the gap in the rear stock of the 30M1 had to be filled with a piece of wood.
